New, OFFICIAL AL Vent Server and Clarification on Harbringer's Departure

This is not a post I would have wanted to had to write.

Today, I was forced to remove a member whom, up until recently, we had considered a good friend and guild mate.

However, much evidence has come to light that this person had created their own guild, had begun to advertise for it, and had recruited Army of Light members into it. I still provided the opportunity by asking repeatedly for this person to choose -- the AL or themselves. I was told "you'll just have to wait until the game launches". I'm sorry, but such a blatant disregard for the guild and all the additional harm such an attitude would cause just isn't right.

Here is a quote from the Mythic Alliance Forums, posted way back on 10/18/10:

As you can see from the use of the language and the words chosen, the AL was being used while time was being bidden.

This member had been attempting to sow seeds of discontent and stir up problems, stress, and controversy where none needed to exist. Constantly picking fights with administrators and other members solely because of an attitude problem (based partly on envy of not being an administrator themselves) is simply unacceptable. Tearing down and criticizing those who have worked hard and continue to work hard to create and keep this guild is unjust and simple rabble-rousing, especially when done without reason or purpose. Sadly, some people were just born to agitate and find the fault in others.

This is the problem when a person considers themselves "too cool" for rules, for cooperation, and for organization. This is the problem when someone becomes unreasonably angry because they are not the ones calling the shots, and because they do not get their way all of the time. When teamwork and authority are not respected and the individual ego and individual wants are placed above the good of the whole... well... that's when folks just need to part ways.

To this end, we are asking that no one participate in any of Harbringer's chats or Vent servers. Two of our biggest rules here in the AL are "No Drama" and "Cause No Harm". Harbringer has done both despite repeated warnings and mediations. Before parting ways, I asked him to not do anything that would harm the AL, but I'm not hopeful, I am sad to admit. And yes, I know that this story will get spun, blown up, and some of us will be portrayed as the boogeyman before this is all said and done... but, we'll just have to ignore the drama and the hype, and move past it. We always do. I just wish that in the meantime, Harb would discontinue trying to recruit our members... or using our forms, graphics, etc. for his site.

The purpose of this post is not to speak poorly of anyone - there's been enough of that from the other side already. Rather, its to help explain and heal. We know that some of you are friends with him, and that is fine. We merely ask that you do not allow such ties to harm our guild family. Please use your best judgment on how to keep us all happy, safe, and progressive.

NEWS: Master Caliber and I have acquired a new and improved Ventrilo server for us to use -- and it will be our official server for voice communication. Details to follow.

I agree with our Grand Master. It was annoying that Harbringer thought he could do whatever he wanted because his ego got too high, using "free-will" as an excuse. Plus, it was annoying that Caliber and I had no choice but to ask the Grand Master to help us out on this situation... Hopefully, we do not have members like this who they think are "better", "special", or even "too cool"....they do not belong in this guild.

But, this is great news at least: we have gotten our own Vent now under the administration of Caliber...This will result in a success, I believe!

Im crushed that Harb had done this, but rest assured i did not know he was doing this....shame he had to go, but since i do not know the details, i will have to go with what is right for the guild

I agree with you fully Jaina, but im still sad that Harb is gone, even though he did horrible things to this guild. It is sad that he is gone, but it is true that me, and im sure everyone else, appreciate the things you guys have done

As I've been hearing more from the members about what Harbringer has been saying, I grow more concerned... and as such, feel a few things need to be clarified.

1.) Members will NOT be snapped at, dismissed, demoted, or kicked out of the guild just because you have a concern, suggestion, or an idea. This is just ridiculous. We are always open to new suggestions and new ideas. Everything that is brought to us is given its due consideration. Just because an idea or recommendation isn't implemented does not mean it was blown off. If everyone got everything that they wanted all the time it'd be chaos. However, throwing a fit, talking poorly of others, and attacking the volunteer work they do for the guild is NOT the appropriate response if your idea isn't used or your behavior isn't acceptable - Harb did not understand this.

* TO CLARIFY: ALL SUGGESTIONS, IDEAS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED! During this time of the year, folks are tied up in their real lives with work, school, family, etc., and as we wait for Launch, we could use new innovations to help keep things fun and interesting.

2.) There is no Abuse of Power. Really... when you get down to it, we hang out on a website. What "power" is there? The Owners and Moderators are tasked with enforcing the Rules of the guild in regards to language, appropriate topics, etc. to help keep the guild mature and family-friendly. I've seen the alternative -- and if you want to too, visit PD sometime. Many of the High Council members, besides donating just their time, also pay out of pocket for the things we enjoy here: especially Master Caliber with our site, forums, and templates.

* AND REMEMBER: JUST BECAUSE COUNSELING OR DISCIPLINARY CONVERSATIONS TAKE PLACE, DOESN'T MEAN IT WILL HAPPEN IN PUBLIC. In fact, they shouldn't -- when a member has a concern with how an administrator chooses to enforce the rules, I and/or Master Jaina take action. We simply don't embarrass people in front of others when we do it.

3.) The High Council members are people too - just like you. We have jobs, classes, families, and obligations. Its important to remember that as much as it'd be great if we could and as much as we want to, we just don't have the ability to be 'in the guild' 24/7 -- real life just doesn't allow it, sadly. And, to expect otherwise is simply unfair to us as people.

* TO SUM UP: LEADERS ARE REAL LIFE PEOPLE, TOO.

4.) Harbringer is to remain banned. It is possible that this ban will grow to include members of his new "guild". This is because he continues to not only speak poorly of the guild but is constantly trying to recruit - bribing people with titles and positions. First, that's no way to run a guild. And second, its despicable.

* PRINCIPLE: IF FOLKS DON'T LIKE THE RULES OR ENVIRONMENT OF A GUILD AND ARE TO THE POINT THAT THEY FEEL THE NEED TO TRY TO DESTROY IT: DON'T. Just leave. Not everyone is going to be a perfect fit for every guild. Rather than create drama and be immature, pulling antics such as Harb's, folks should just amicably part ways.

* There is a Suggestions Thread in our Forums. Not only can you post ideas or concerns there, but, the guild leadership is always very happy to discuss these things with you -- just PC or PM one of us!

Harbringer's latest ploy is to claim that AL members are harassing his threads, chats, channels, etc. While I don't believe this at all and feel its just something else to throw rocks at us about, it does re-enforce our policy:

Until further notice, members are not to visit Harbringer's/Mythic Alliance's website, forums, chats, Vent, thread, etc. Harbringer demanded that I "keep AL members in check"... so, I am honoring his request.

Agreed, i would advise having a mutual respect for him, but to not talk with him.

What's 'mutual' about it? He created a secret guild, talked a BUNCH of trash about our High Council members, and is actively trying to undermine this community because of his jealousy.

It seems that Ares Dastan, who was on a LOA, has chosen to join Harb as well. This is sad. Ares has been removed from the guild as a matter of safety for all of you. We can't allow those who join Harb, who has openly threatened the guild and its members, to be allowed here. As you can see in the link below, Harb is announcing his new member, Crypt. Marcus Crypt is Ares. He is a high ranking member and has been for weeks. Ares was a good friend to many of us, he was to me as well. If anyone has any questions or needs to talk about anything, please pc myself, GM Jephos or any other hc member in chat or on the forums here. We are always here for you all.

Im basicially saying just ignore him. Let him get all mad about whatever the heck he wants, and just keep your cool. i dont hate him, nor do i like him for what he did.
